SUSPENSION HAS ITS PRIVILEGES
Effective Monday July 30, 2007 Capt. Paul Messina began serving his five-day suspension for his highly publicized 'sleeping on duty' incident. Normally when a person is suspended they have their police powers revoked, are barred from HQ unless escorted while in the building and have all their police issued gear relinquished until the suspension is over.

Well, seems Trenton Police Director Joseph Santiago is giving suspended Capt. Messina preferential treatment again. On Tuesday July 31, suspended Capt. Messina was observed inside police headquarters conducting business without an escort. He was observed wandering around the building, going into offices, and it's been said that he possibly attended a meeting.

While those observations might seem trivial to some, the more alarming action -or inaction in this case- is the fact that suspended Capt. Messina still has full control of an unmarked Trenton police car. As required, suspended Capt. Messina turned in his gun and badge, but mysteriously omitted the return of his assigned car. This is evidenced by the fact that it was parked in the driveway of his Burlington County home on Wed. August 1, 2007. (See pictures below.)

While it's unknown whether or not suspended Capt. Messina is using the car, it begs the question of why would Director Santiago not demand the return of the police car to HQ during the suspension?

I guess it only proves that suspended Capt. Messina is allowed to play by a different set of rules with the oft proven incompetent Joseph Santiago in charge.
